Information about H. pylori breath test

H. pylori 13C Urea breath test

The 13C Urea H. pylori breath test allows to detect the presence of a specific bacterium – Helicobacter pylori in the stomach. The test is specific and safe – it is used for both initial diagnosis and follow-up after H. pylori eradication therapy. This test is neither toxic nor radioactive, it is non-invasive, so it can be used by children from the age 8, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems.
Due to the shape of the tablets, the test is not suitable for children under 8 years of age. Two breaths into special bags should be made at an interval of half an hour to perform the test.
It is recommended to perform the test in the morning on an empty stomach, in any case, it is recommended not to eat at least six hours before the test.
Antibiotics should not be used for one month prior to the test and the use of proton pump inhibitors (omeprazole, esomeprazole, rabeprazole) should be avoided for two weeks before the test.

The breath test sample set includes:

1. “00-Minute Breath bag” – initial exhalation collection bag;
2. “30-Minutes Breath bag” – second exhalation (after taking tablets) collection bag;
3. Two “HelicoKit” 37,5 mg tablets
